Ambitious target for CO2 emissions. Hurricanes, floods and droughts are some of the consequences of exces-sive carbon dioxide emissions in the world. Arla Foods wants to play its part in contributing to a better climate.

Scheduled to run until 2020, the climate strategy will form the basis for more tar-getted initiatives, including a CO2 mark on products to enable consumers to see the environmental impact of a specific product.

The future climate strategy is a part of the overall environmental strategy which again is a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility report.

The environmental strategy focuses on areas such as water, energy and waste. The separate climate strategy will contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions within specific areas such as transport, packaging, food production and cattle farming.

Arla Foods total Carbon Footprint is estimated to 9,000,000 tonnes

We intend to achieve a 25 per cent reduction within the areas we are responsible for ourselves, i.e. food production, transport and packaging. As for farming practices, which are outside our direct area of responsibility, we will work with our co-operative members, insurance companies and industry associations to reduce the climate impact from cattle farming as far as possible.

Target areas for the new climate strategy:

	Cattle farming - Feed composition - Use of high value fertiliser - Biogas production from waste
	Transport - Use of bio-fuel - Training in environmental-friendly driving - Greater efficiency/better route planning
	Food production - Use of new technologies - Use of CO2 neutral fuels to replace fossil fuel - Greater efficiency
	Packaging - Minimising the amount of packaging - Use of low-impact materials - Increased use of recyclable materials
